Darcie's sunflower has only been in the ground a few days but it already looks a lot happier. It is standing tall and straight.

Even though it may be raining outside Xanthe has still created a fabulous garden inside using bits and bobs she found around.

Look who Summer bumped into.

Summer's garden.

Look at this fabulous garden Summer designed. It comes complete with pond and vegetable beds, flower beds, lawn, path and decking. You can tell that Summer put lots of thought into her design.

The rabbits were after the carrots straight away.

And even more amazingly, a newt moved in to the pond! You must have created a perfect habitat for it, Summer. 

First in the ground!

Darcie's sunflower is the first of all our seeds planted before Easter to get into the ground. Lets hope it can continue to get taller and taller. 

Where in the world?

We looked at loads of food packets and found where they originated from. Some foods had come miles such as corn from Argentina, bananas and pineapple from Central America, wheat from USA, salmon from Canada, tuna from Indonesia, apples from South Africa and sunflower seeds from China. But other things had come from closer to us in Europe. Lots of salad food came from holland and Italy but most of it came from Spain, such as tomatoes, celery, cucumber, oranges and peaches. It was good fun using the atlases, map and iPads to find where all the different countries were. A few things had not had far to travel at all such as potatoes, rhubarb, mushrooms and mustard from the UK. The closest food we had was eggs from Diss!

Look how tall Megan's sunflower has got. You'll need to give it a big stick to support it as it grows even taller.

Real Gardens.

We became garden creators today. We found materials around us and created temporary miniature gardens on the raised beds at school. The only thing we brought out with us was trays to create a pond in. Looking on the ground we found bark, stones, leaves, twigs, flowers and berries. We found other useful bits in the shed, greenhouse and bug hotel that we included. They were fun to make as we had to work as a team. 

Our finished mini gardens include ponds, sandpits, paths, greenhouses, fences, trees, bridges, lawns and flowers. We know they won't last very long but we enjoyed ourselves anyway.

Wow Jack!

Look at Jack's super sunflower, he is going to plant it outside in a few weeks. It has got some large healthy leaves. 

Esmee's sunflower.

Look at this. I think you will need to plant this sunflower into the garden soon. It is looking tall and strong. 

Growing good!

The beans and Marigolds were great to watch as they helped us with our learning, but now we have put them where they belong. Hopefully the beans will continue to survive and grow.

Garden Designs

We thought about different users of a garden and what features they might want in their garden. Our list included children, adults, gardeners and wildlife. Some of the features we came up with were vegetable beds, log piles, benches and sport areas. We created a design for an ideal garden then over 3 days we have created the garden as a work of art making sure we followed the design closely. The classroom resembled a bomb site but most of us are pretty good at tidying up!
