Wheeled Vehicles

The children have all designed a wheeled vehicle especially for one of their toys.

 They have collected all the boxes needed.

 Then the fun part of starting to make a collection of boxes look like the designs.

The vehicles have spaces to fit their particular teddy, windows so the teddies can see, seats for passengers, doors that open, lights and all manner of optional extras! 

East Anglian Transport Museum

 What a fantastic day we had at the East Anglian Transport Museum at Carlton Colville near Lowestoft. The weather was perfect and we had amazing guided tours from the volunteers who run the Museum and drove the vehicles.
All aboard for a rattling rickety train ride.

 When we got to the end of the line the engine was uncoupled and chugged to the other end of the train to pull as back again. All wave to the engine driver.

 A trolley bus. It drives on the road but is powered by the overhead electric cables.

 Sheds to keep the tram cars in. They had to be very tall.

 Next stop, all aboard the trolley bus. Far more comfortable with lovely soft leather seats and shiny metal handles.

 All the vehicles which end up at the museum have to be worked on and made to look good as new again. This is all done by the band of volunteers.

 Whoa, hold on tight what a speedy bouncy bus journey this is.

 This trolley bus once drove on the streets of Belfast in Northern Ireland.

 These two colourful green and cream trams have come from Blackpool.

 The tram car was beautiful inside with its wooden seats and ceiling and red glass windows which let the sun shine in and make red sparkles on the floor.

 At the end of the line the conductor had to hook the electric cable to the other end of the tram so we could travel in the opposite direction, and we had to get out of our seats and move the back rests of our seats the other way so we faced forward again.

Spring visit to Quaker wood

This morning we had our second visit to Quaker wood. What a fantastic time we had! The rain kindly held off and we had too much fun to notice the chilly wind. Thanks again go to the staff at Quaker wood for organising such informative and fun activities.

Activity 1 involved measuring ourselves and finding a tree of the same height, then measuring our little fingers and finding a leaf of the same length.

We found out how many children could fit around the trunk of a big, old oak tree.

In the second activity we pulled up all the weeds that had grown inside the tree guards to give the new trees room to grow. It was hard work!

During the third activity we did some orienteering. We had to find cards with numbers on in the right order and write down the letters that were on them. The cards were hidden very well and tricky to find.

The fourth and final activity was looking for signs of Spring. We found lots of buds, catkins and celandines. We sat really quietly and listened to the beautiful sound of birds singing to each other, a sure sign that Spring is finally here!
