Marigold investigation

Our 4 Marigold plants have been in their different conditions for five days now and are beginning to show signs of change. Number 2 is definitely looking the worst.

Bean root shoots!

The beans in our bean root viewer are sending out long roots in search of water and have now sent stems with leaves shooting up to the light.

We made a Bean Root Viewer so we can watch how the roots travel in search of water. They started off tiny, then looked like little rat tails then they grew extra hairs.

Cress Sheep.

We followed a set of instructions to make Cress Sheep. Luckily the instructions were numbered so it was easy to follow and they had bossy verbs so we knew what to do. Some of our sheep look hairier than others so we might need to shear them soon!

Growing conditions.

We are giving 4 Marigold plants different conditions because we want to find out what happens to them. Number 1 will get water and light. Number 2 will get light but no water. Number 3 will get water but no light and Number 4 will get no water and no light.

We have made predictions of what we think will happen and which ones will do best and worst. We all think Number 2 will be the worst as it will probably get hot, dry and thirsty.

We will give Numbers 1 and 3 the same amount of water and will check them after a few days.

Numbers 1 and 2 are on the window sill and 3 and 4 will be shut in the dark cupboard.

Signs of life

We looked all around our school for signs of plant or animal life. Then we plotted what we found on a map. We also looked for certain conditions in our grounds, dry and bright, dry and dull, damp and bright, damp and dull. The hill was definitely dry and bright. The wild area was damp and bright. We saw newts and frogs there so they must like damp conditions.
