Mrs Kineavy's socks!
George knocked my socks off this afternoon with an amazing opening sentence to his Grace Darling Journal.
What if?
What if we received a box from a museum. Should we open it?
What if the box had gloves in. Should we put them on?
"There might be something delicate and precious."
"It might be something really old."
What if we found a book. Should we take it out?
"It looks like it's been in a fire."
"It looks as if it has got wet."
"It looks ancient old!"
"Be careful with it."
"There is a label on it."
"It says Journal of William Darling."
Should we open it and read it?
What if it tells us all about life on Longstone lighthouse?
Will it give us any more details about the rescue Grace and her father William did?
What if the last page, the day of the rescue was missing? Why might that be?
"They were so busy doing the rescue they forgot the diary."
"It was so terrible that William was upset and wanted to forget all about it."
Reading multiplication sums.
We have carried on with counting and grouping today, but this time we had to read some sums.
We learnt that in a multiplication sum such as 3 x 6 the first number tells us how big and the second number tells us how many. So 3 x 6 means the number 3, 6 times.

Counting and grouping.
We have been counting and grouping into 2s, 5s and 10s.
"These are in groups of 5, there are 20 groups."
"We are making groups of 10."
"I've made 6 groups of 10."
"We made nine groups of 10 so we wanted one more group to get to one hundred."
"We've got three groups of ten."
"We've made ten, five times."
"I've made five sets of ten."
"I've made 8 twos."
"I've got eight groups of two."
"This is fifteen twos."
"I made 11 lots of two."
"We counted these in 5s."
"This is five groups of five. I've got 25."
